William Paul Moss (1886−1967) was a noted lawyer, a Texas District Judge, oil producer, and author of many books. His first formal education was in a one-room log house in Clay County and his teacher was J.V. A. Moore. Other schools he attended included Hiawassee College in Hiawassee, Georgia; Valparaiso University in Indiana; and the University of Texas. He contributed funds to various County projects, including for building the Baptist Church in Tusquittee. Enjoyable to read is his book, Rough and Tumble (1954), especially in the beginning where he describes growing up on a farm and the feelings of a young boy hunting with his dog in Clay County.
