Claude Russell Moss, PhD. (1875−1955) born in a log cabin in the Tusquittee section of the County, attended Chigger Hill School, and graduated from Hicks Academy. He pursued his higher education in Anthropology and Law. Soon after receiving his degree in Anthropology, while working for the U.S. Government for several years, he migrated to the Philippines to do research. Returning to the United States, he practiced Law in California until his death. Well worth reading is a series of 12 articles that started in 1998 in The Smokey Mountain Centennial.
