Jefferson Monroe May


  Dr. Jefferson Monroe May (1890−1940) arrived in Clay County in 1917 as a doctor from Lovett, Florida.  He won the friendship of everyone he met and was a credit to his profession.  In 1937, he won a seat in the North Carolina Senate and served one term.
