The Club started on June 1, 1938 with fifteen charter members, who were first members of Lions International. The main objective of Lions International is to assist the blind and or near-blind. In addition to participating in international programs, the Clay County organization has many of its own local projects and programs, such as the building of two structures for Community use: the Clay County Lions Pavilion (located at the County Park on Lake Chatuge), which is open to the public for picnicking, and the Gazebo on the courthouse lawn, available for public gatherings and special events. In addition, the Lions sponsor Boy Scout Troop 407 and built a facility in town on Davis Loop Road for Boy Scout meetings and programs
