The OES in North Carolina started in 1905, when native-born citizen Greene Henderson Haigler was instrumental in organizing the Grand Chapter of OES for the State of North Carolina and became its first Worthy Grand Patron (for more information on Mr. Haigler’s accomplishments, see Chapter on Outstanding Citizens). Eastern Star strives to take good people and build uplifting associations of love and service, through precepts and example, and to build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth, and loving kindness. As one of its projects, the Clay Chapter has adopted the Care Center (nursing home) for helping its occupants.
